The proposed research will increase Austria's scientific visibility and standing in the field of space technologies, with emphasis on innovative lubrication solutions. At this point, there are only few global players in space lubrication, mostly from the USA, and few in the field of innovative new lubricants and additives. This enables us to literally form a spearhead into this field, which very promisingly supports the endeavours of improving Austria's and also Europe's scientific and technological excellence.

The proposed research efforts should prepare the basis for efficient development activities towards new liquid lubricants for space based on ionic liquids. By forming an independent basis for Austrian lubrication technology for space applications, the proposed project will strengthen the Austrian position in the global marketplace, creating opportunities for business and science.
