Results of the NPOC Space Law Essay Competition 2023/24
The NPOC (National Point of Contact) Space Law Austria Essay Competition took place for the third time in the 2023/24 academic year. Once again this year, participants were able to write a 3,800-word essay on one of three exciting and current topics in space law. Nora Högelsberger (University of Vienna) won first prize with her essay on the Artemis Accords.
In the third edition of the Essay Competition in 2023/24, essays on the topics of
- "Returning to the Moon: A close examination of the Artemis Accords",
- "Space Law and environmental protection" and
- "The legality of utilizing nuclear devices for planetary defence"
could be submitted. Students at all Austrian universities, including Erasmus students, were invited to take part in the competition.
Nora Högelsberger (University of Vienna) won first prize with her essay on the Artemis Accords. Kirsten Corinne Andriessen took second place with her presentation of the environmental challenges in space, while Alistair Robert Taylor won third place with his strategic examination of the Artemis Accords as a U.S. policy initiative.
