Situational awareness for the environment: scientific and policy aspects in environmental monitoring and control
Organizer
Italian Embassy in Vienna
Content Description
Environmental monitoring, like many other fields, now benefits from a wide range of observable data collected through various sensors, spanning dimensional scales from microscopy to satellite observation.
The analysis of such a complex system can be approached through Situational Awareness methods, which involve perceiving and collecting relevant elements within a specific environment, at a given time and space, understanding their significance, and projecting their status into the near future.
Participants will include
- Prof. Massimiliano Lega from Parthenope University in Naples, a world expert in situational awareness methods for environmental applications and the lead of the SAfE project, which is currently being presented at various international institutes;
- Gabriele Redigonda, a research fellow at the European Space Policy Institute specializing in space observations related to the environment and climate;
- Roberta Teta, Professor at the Department of Pharmacy at the University of Naples Federico II; and
- Fabrizio Curcio, the former head of the Civil Protection Department at the Italian Presidency of the Council of Ministers.
