printHeatAppforSpace

Fully printed heater on CFRP structures for Space applications

Short Description

The thermal control system of a spacecraft includes several hundreds of heater elements. The integration of fully surface printed electrical and thermal components (heaters, thermocouples, power and grounding wires, and antennas) on the spacecraft structures by direct printing is an innovative solution which could provide major benefits for the space industry.

The industrial research aimed in this project focuses on the direct writing of heaters on carbon fiber reinforced polymer panels, as one of the main lightweight components of spacecrafts. The consortium is composed by the Swiss company APCO Technologies, the Swiss research organization CSEM and the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology GmbH, and aims to develop the processes and materials necessary to enable the use of direct printed electrical components on structural elements of spacecrafts.
