SynSent

Synergistic Use of Sentinel Missions for Monitoring Cryosphere and Surface Deformation

Short Description

The project SynSent is aimed at the development, testing and validation of methods and processing lines for geophysical products over land surfaces based on synergy of SAR data of the Sentinel-1 and multispectral optical imagery of the Sentinel-2 mission of the European Copernicus programme.

Improved products and services in two application fields will be developed:

  1. Cryosphere products on ice motion and glacier zones for climate change and water management;
  2. products on landslide motion and surface deformation for hazard assessment and emergency management.

The proposed approach, integrating data from SAR and optical missions, will results in significant improvements regarding information content and quality of the products compared to conventional procedures based in single sensor types.

The exploitation plans are addressing regional and national authorities, civil governmental agencies, and private enterprises concerned with monitoring of the environment, natural hazards, and climate, as well as potential contributions to Copernicus core and down-stream services.
