Development of an Improved Time-of-Flight Mass Spectrometer

Short Description

This project aims at developing an improved sensitivity version of an airborne proton-transfer-reaction time-of-flight mass spectrometer. The new prototype shall fly on the NASA DC-8 Airborne Science Laboratory in a sub-orbital atmospheric composition study to improve satellite-based monitoring of air quality.

While this niche application is of very limited economic potential, the company partner will acquire technical know-how and capabilities for subsequently developing a new commercial trace gas analyzer with a broad spectrum of applications in environmental, nutritional, medical and life sciences. The follow-up instrument has the potential to become the new flagship product of a small and successful high-tech company.
