MAQROsteps

Increase the Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs) of key technologies for testing the foundations of physics with macroscopic quantum resonators (MAQRO)

Short Description

One of the central objectives in modern physics is to investigate the relation between quantum physics and gravity. Since 2010, we have been working on studies and experiments towards the realization of a fundamental science mission with the aim of performing quantum interference experiments with massive objects in which gravity may already lead to deviations from quantum theory.

In order to achieve that goal, the TRLs of several core technologies still has to be increased. Here, we will concentrate on two central technologies:

  1. a thermal shield that will allow to passively achieve the required environment conditions, and
  2. a bread-board experiment with a stably bonded cavity assembly for feed-back and side-band cooling of massive objects close to the quantum ground state.
