"IADC at 30" - Celebrating 30 Years of the Inter-Agency Space Debris Coordination Committee (IADC)

Agenda Item 6 of the 61st session of the Scientific and Technical Subcommittee of the UN COPUOS concerns the topic of space debris and collisions therewith. Moreover, Agenda Item 11 addresses the long-term sustainability of outer space activities, with the inputs of the dedicated Working Group, which will be reconvened under its five-year workplan.

In previous sessions, COPUOS STSC noted the growing implementation of the Inter-Agency Space Debris Coordination Committee (IADC) Space Debris Mitigation Guidelines, as well as recognizing the recent work of the IADC in updating this instrument, complementing it with a statement on large satellite constellations and with its annual reports on the status of the space debris environment.

On the occasion of the 30th Anniversary of the IADC, panelists will discuss national and multilateral approaches to preserve the space environment in light of the past, current and future work of the IADC. The ESPI side event aims to foster an exchange of views on the various efforts towards a sustainable outer space.
