7th IAA Planetary Defense Conference

The International Academy of Astronautics will hold the 7th IAA Planetary Defense Conference in 2021 in Vienna, Austria. The Conference will be hosted by the UN Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA). Due to COVID-19, a decision regarding the final conference format will be done by 15 January 2020. Those interested in participation are encouraged to register to receive updates via email.

Organizer

The Conference will be organised by the International Academy of Astronautics and hosted by the UN Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) supported by a Programme Committee comprising NASA, ESA, renowned industries, universities and research institutes and a Local Organizing Committee.

Content Description

This bi-annual conference brings together world experts to discuss the threat to Earth posed by asteroids and comets and actions that might be taken to deflect or disrupt a threatening object.

A hypothetical NEO/Earth impact scenario will be part of the conference (similar to what was done at previous conferences). The conference will include panel discussions and a small exhibition. As in the past, all presentations will be video streamed.
